Artuke, 'Trascuevas' White

Artuke's first white wine is made with Viura, Malvasia and Palomino Fino from three different vineyards over 50 years old on calcareous clay soils. After being hand harvested, fermentation takes place in stainless steel. The resulting wine is then aged on its lees for 10 months: half in 500 liter French oak barrels, the other half in concrete.

Trascuevas is a reference to the old caves where white wines, meant to be consumed domestically, were stored. Many of the Rioja families would grow white grapes near the home to make wine for personal consumption.

Artuke is a portmanteau of the De Blanco brothers Arturo and Kike. Arturo is now the winemaker for Artuke, and Kike has dedicated himself to growing grapes exclusively.
