Fento 'Xabre'
"The earth was opened up so the rivers could reach the sea. The endless mountain slopes cover the churches, chapels, monasteries and coarse rows of vines. Sacred monuments."
Xabre is made with grapes grown in the Quiroga-Bibei sub-area, in the municipality of Manzaneda, at an altitude, with vines planted on terraces. The soils are rich and varied, sometimes sandy with abundant granite, sometimes with clay and slate, with a cool, Atlantic climate.
The oldest of these vines are over eighty years. Fermentation is done in 500-liter barrels, followed by 10 months in French oak and six more months in foudres.
Xabre is the gallego word for weathered sandy granite soils, typical of Galicia and that in which the grapes for the Xabre wine are grown.
Mouratón, also known as Juan García, is a grape variety indigenous to Arribes del Duero on the border with Portugal. This variety can also be found in our Cielos y Besos as well as the Pirita Tinto, both from Almaroja.
