Alemany i Corrio, 'Cargol Treu Vi'
"With a production of ~2000 bottles, this wine expresses the personality inherent to some over 75 year-old vines from the Massís del Garraf. It is a dry wine, mineral and saline. A Xarel·lo with mountain aromas."
-Irene Alemany and Laurent Corrió, owners and winemakers, Alemany i Corrió
The grapes for this 100% Xarel·lo come from 75-year-old vines in a single vineyard (La Gavarra), planted on chalky soil in the Massís del Garraf, a protected mountain range to the southwest of Barcelona that straddles the Mediterranean Sea. The Xarel·lo is vinified with wild yeasts in 300 liter French oak barrels, 25% of which are new.
The name Cargol Treu Vi comes from the lyrics of a Catalan children's song:
Cargol treu banya,
Puja a la muntanya.
Cargol treu vi,
Puja al muntanyí.
