Coto de Gomariz, 'Finca O Figueiral'
"O Figueiral was the first parcel restored by Caco Carreiro in 1978 with autochthonous varieties and represents a step forward in Ribeiro whites. In this plot of the Pago de As Viñas, the vines are planted in clay soils on schist subsoil: Treixadura, Lado, Albariño, Godello, Loureira and up to 12 minority varieties such as Dona Blanca, Torrontés, Silveiriña, etc. "
-Inma Pazos & Miguel Montoto, Coto de Gomariz
The Treixadura, Lado, Albariño, Godello and Loureira were hand harvested, followed by destemming and a soft press, and vinified separately. The free-run juice is settled and partially fermented at a low temperature in stainless steel vats using wild yeasts. Fermentation is completed in new 500 liter French oak barrels, followed by ten months on fine lees. Periodic bâttonage is done to maintain the balance between wine and wood, and develop a fuller-bodied wine. The Finca o Figueiral is bottled on a Flower Day according to the biodynamic calendar and spends six months developing before release.
